A Bothersome Event

Wednesday saw me at Best Buy for about an hour before class began. Like most stores that big, there's music plays and between songs the announcer for the store chimes in to tell everyone about one of their latest deals, whatever, whatever, right? While perusing the aisles for music (being unable to find any Woody Guthrie and being frustrated with nothing but "Greatest Hits" albums) this announcer came on telling the people of the store about the Clash. She started talking about how they've been performing for 30 years and they're still entertaining audiences and to buy their "Greatest Hits" album or something like that. Ok. Here we go. First, the Clash may have been entertaining audiences for 30 years with their albums, but the band formed in '79 and disbanded in '86 where, still signed to Sony as a solo artist, Joe Strummer ended up sabotaging his own contract with Sony by putting out a $5 million "artistic" album just so that he could be free to write whatever he wanted without having to give the rights to Sony and wouldn't be forced to produce albums whenever they wanted. That being said, Mr. Strummer didn't get back together with the band, but did some radio work and formed a band called the Mescaleros. So, only through recordings did they entertain for 30 years.

As far as "they've been performing" goes? No. Joe Strummer died in 2002. He hasn't been recording and performing with the band posthumously. He's in the ground, dead, and it's a shame that he is. So don't give me any of this "they've been performing for 30 years" crap.

One of the biggest things that irks me is the fact that there are people out there who 1) don't know who Joe Strummer is, 2) don't know who the Clash are, 3) probably believe that Strummer's still alive because Best Buy told them so, 4) are going to buy the greatest hits album and think they know everything about the Clash! Agh! Damn you, Best Buy! You just lost some serious points.

You're going to get an ulcer the way you worry or get bothered about things. complaining about greatest hits albums and what not.

chances are you are the only one who was even listening to the announcment.

weren't you the one who wrote (about three posts back) "what's with everyone complaining about things these days?"

As you can tell I hate it when you complain about shit haha.

Put a smile on. Best Buy still has quite a collection of various goods. and sunday is going to be the Shiiiiiieeeeiiiit!
